Bicycling is an integral part of our local transportation system offering a wide range of benefits including supporting healthy lifestyles, congestion reduction, mobility for youth and seniors as well as air quality benefits. In addition, communities that are “bikeable” are generally perceived to be more desirable places to live. The San Ramon Public Works Department has started the process of updating the San Ramon Bicycle Master Plan (BMP), which was completed in 2018. The BMP serves as a guide for the development of safe and accessible bikeways and paths within San Ramon. A significant number of projects in the BMP have been implemented and policies, programs, and technologies have been created or improved since the adoption of the 2018 BMP, which is the purpose for the update.
The public is encouraged to help shape the BMP Update. As part of the process of preparing the BMP Update, we are engaging with community members, community-based organizations, and advisory committees through community events, surveys, and other activities. Whether you are an avid bicyclist, recreational bicyclist, commuter bicyclist, or just thinking about starting bicycling, this is your chance to participate in updating the vision for the future of biking in San Ramon.
What is a Bike Master Plan (BMP) Update?
The purpose of the Bicycle Master Plan Update is to review the 2018 plan, identify what has been implemented since then, and develop refreshed strategies to improve safety and access and to encourage bicycling throughout the city. This update will outline updated goals, policies, physical improvements, educational programs, and funding/implementation strategies.
