What is this project about?

County Connection is studying how to improve bus stops to make them safer, more comfortable, and better connected to destinations and other transportation options. This project focuses on the design and connectivity of bus stops; including shelters, seating, lighting, accessibility features, and connections to sidewalks, bike paths, and other transit services. Your input will help determine which type of stops get improvements first and what those improvements will look like.

Timeline

  • Timeline item 1 - active

Phase 1: Existing Conditions and Community Baseline

This phase involves establishing relationships with community partners and gathering early input on lived experience with bus stops across the service area.

Between May 2026 – July 2026, we will:

    • Gather initial input on bus stop conditions, accessibility barriers, safety concerns, and unmet needs from riders and community members
    • Build relationships with community-based organizations, community leaders, and agency stakeholders
    • Identify geographic and demographic patterns in community feedback to inform equity-focused prioritization criteria
    • Confirm or augment findings from existing data sources (APC data, pedestrian collision data, equity community designations)
  • Timeline item 2 - incomplete

Phase 2: Draft Guidelines and Public Engagement

In this phase, we will present preliminary design guidelines and prioritization criteria to the public and stakeholders for feedback.

Between August 2026 – December 2026, we will:

    • Share draft design guidelines and illustrations
    • Gather feedback on design choices and tradeoffs
    • Gather community input on the criteria used to prioritize bus stop improvements
    • Validate preliminary findings on priority stops with riders and community members
    • Ensure underrepresented voices, including seniors, people with disabilities, youth, and non-English speakers, are reflected in the draft guidelines
  • Timeline item 3 - incomplete

Phase 3: Plan Finalization and Board Preparation

This phase will close the feedback loop with the community and will involve preparing materials for County Connection Board adoption.

Between January 2027 – March 2027, we will:

    • Share the near-final plan with stakeholders and community partners for final comment
    • Present project outcomes to the County Connection Board of Directors with supporting documentation of community engagement
    • Ensure the final plan reflects a traceable line from community input to design recommendations
