About the Project

San Pablo Avenue is a vital connection between west Contra Costa County and Downtown Oakland, serving diverse communities and businesses. The San Pablo Ave Safety & Access Project focuses on the Contra Costa portion and includes the cities of El Cerrito, Richmond, and San Pablo.

The Project builds on previous phases of analysis, which identified potential strategies to improve bus speeds and reliability and address severe injury and fatal collisions for people walking, biking, and driving.

Between July 2020 and June 2025, the majority of people killed on San Pablo Ave were walking or biking.
