What is the Markleeville Community Transportation Plan?

The Markleeville Community Transportation Plan will establish a strategic vision for the State Route 89 corridor through historic downtown Markleeville and connecting roadways to surrounding neighborhoods and public lands. The Plan aims to establish a detailed vision for multimodal transportation improvements that will:

  • Improve the quality of life for local residents;
  • Strengthen the local economy;
  • Increasing active mobility options in the community; and
  • Preserve the natural environment.

Why Do We Need a Plan?

The Community Transportation Plan will serve as a strategic roadmap for addressing the transportation needs of the Markleeville community. Currently, SR-89 offers no bicycle or pedestrian infrastructure, and parking and access is disorganized, creating challenging conditions for residents and visitors. By working with the community to identify improvements that reflect local priorities, the plan will identify realistic, fundable, and implementable solutions for Markleeville.
