What is the August Sustainable Community Plan?
The August Sustainable Community Plan will establish a vision for how to improve access to safe and sustainable transportation options throughout the August neighborhood. This may include things like new sidewalks, improvements to bus stops, safe routes to school, and more
Why do we need a Plan?
August is a well-established community that lacks multimodal facilities for its residents. As the community continues to change, the growing and changing population may increase the use of existing transportation facilities and the number of children walking to school within the community.
Identifying and prioritizing safe routes to schools and parks, and designing for younger, more vulnerable users, can support positive mobility, health, and educational outcomes for August.
Creating a plan for the neighborhood will set up specific projects for funding and implementation to achieve the visions and goals of August residents.
What are the next steps?
After a first round of community engagement in early 2026, a draft set of projects and improvements will be developed. We plan to engage with the community again in late 2026 to get feedback on the projects and the draft plan.
Engagement activities have given us a strong understanding of:
- How and where neighborhood residents and employees travel to access education, employment, food and nutrition, health care, financial services, and recreation opportunities.
- Access, safety, and affordability concerns for residents.
- The neighborhood’s environmental burdens and vision for land use planning.
