What is the Downtown Bike to Transit Project?
The Auburn Downtown Bike to Transit Project will support bicycle and pedestrian connections along the 10th St NE/9th St NE corridor to the future King County Metro RapidRide I bus line to be constructed on Auburn Way N. The primary objective is to promote a safer corridor for all users of the roadway, including those who walk, roll, bike, and drive.
Specifically, the project will...
- Reconfigure the roadway from four general purpose lanes to three general purpose lanes, with the inclusion of dedicated bike lanes with buffers at intersections.
- Construct a new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) pedestrian signal at the 10th St NE/A St NE intersection. This will include protected crosswalks with medians, new ADA curb ramps, and crosswalks.
- Reconstruct the 10th St NE/D St NE intersection to include traffic signal improvements such as Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI) phasing, reduced crossing distances for pedestrians, street illumination, and new ADA curb ramps and crosswalks
- Repave the roadway that includes a removal and replacement of the top layer of asphalt pavement on the entire corridor.
Corridor Cross Section
This is the sample cross section that will be applied across the corridor. The cross section includes one vehicle lane in each direction, a two way left turn lane, bike lanes, and wide sidewalks. The cross section may shift at intersections (see below).
